Opening weekend in WSEM features a lot of intriguing, exciting match-ups: the rookie franchises on opening night in Detroit, the 16th and 26th nationally ranked teams facing off on Sunday, and great pitchers squaring off in the tri-meets all weekend long. One match-up's intrigue and excitement, however, rises above all the rest: the Westside Warriors vs. Git r' Done.
The rivalry and back-and-forth trash talk between these two has been well documented. While the gnashing teeth have been relaxed a bit publicly, there is no love lost between these two teams and both still want to show up, light up, and leave the other hurting! Dennis Pearson and Maclin Malloy are the projected starting pitchers. Both will be throwing heat above 70mph, and you better believe they will be amped up for these starts! To put some numbers on the rivalry: the Warriors are 11-9 in tournament play, and since the Warriors began playing with us Git r' Done has gone 11-8. These two teams just met twice at the "Wind Up" Preseason Tournament; first in the winners bracket championship and then again in the tournament championship. Git r' Done won both, making their head-to-head record 4-2 in favor of Git r' Done. More excitingly, having two rivals duke it out for a tournament championship just two weeks before they meet on Opening Day of the season ramps up the excitement and is sure to take competition to a whole new level!
