Sunday! Sunday!! Sunday!!!
It is playoff picture photo finish: Belgian Wiffles (17-11) and King Friday (16-10) are locked into playoff spots, but the seeds are yet to be determined. Friday closes out their season on the road at Wolfpack: a sweep or run differential better than 2 in a split gets them #3; anything less will drop them to the 4 vs. 5 play-in game. Onanism (11-13) are out with the 15-13 Squirrels holding the head-to-head tiebreaker in their season series. The O's 4-game home-and-home series with Westside (13-11) this Sunday looks like it will be a #FUNforALL, but the Warriors still need to scratch out two wins amid the beers and shenanigans to make it in. The Squirrels are watching from their trees, praying for triple onanisms... and triple Onanism wins. While the Oakland County action will decide who falls where in slots 3-5, the big decision will be made in the deep south of Monroe County.

El Diablos (19-7) and the Wicked Aces (18-6) once again claim the Garcia and Ringler pennants, respectively. Still, with one week to play the #1 overall seed and home-field advantage remains up for grabs. While the teams come into Week 14 even in the standings, the Aces have two games in hand against the 4-22 Islanders; putting smart money on them to have a one-game advantage over the Spanish Fightin' Chickens. With the beak and the claws, El Diablos likely need a sweep at Poolside Park to win the top seed. And that is no easy task.

The Aces are undefeated at home, while outscoring their opponents 30-1 in eight games played [Note: this discounts the forfeits by Onanism]. Last season, including the Championship Series, El Diablos went 1-3 at Poolside, and were outscored 8-3. In the first two games of this season, played away from Poolside at Pervis Memorial, the numbers are dead even: 1 win and 3 runs a piece. When those games were played six weeks ago, it looked like El Diablos would cruise to 24 wins and home-field advantage. Since then a 7-3 record has cracked the window and let enough of the steam out. The Aces are now poised to climb through having posted a 14-2 record in that time, including the 8-game win streak they currently ride.

Obviously, this is a clash of Titans - just look at the stats along the sides of this article: the kind of heavyweight battle you are thrilled to have headline and send off the season. However, scuttlebutt is circulating that the teams involved may take a page from the 2011 Squirrels book and tank for the lower seed. Why? In the hope of avoiding rookie phenom, and NWLA Tournament MVP, Stephen Farkas. The upside that goes along with such speculation: nobody is confident the best regular season teams will make it to the WSEM Championship Series. The downside for any team planning to go along with that is King Friday is in the driver's seat for the #3 seed they would face. King Friday who has not lost in ten games. King Friday who has another of the #TwoBestStephensToEverPlayTheGame on their roster, Stephen "The Giant Killer" Werner, whom already has three game winning home runs against three of the league's top pitchers on his resumé.

Let's just face it. The schedule may say "Week 14," but the playoffs are already in full swing!
